Throughout much of the history of the United States Military, there have been four major branches of the service: US Army, US Navy, United States Marine Corps, and the US Coast Guard. The last service added to the US Military was the US Air Force following World War II and the need for a dedicated aerial branch. Former President Donald J. Trump signed legislation in December 2019 authorizing the creation of a sixth branch of the US Military, and the US Space Force was born.

In June 2018, then-President Donald J. Trump issued a directive to the Pentagon to begin planning for the addition of a possible sixth branch to the United States Military. This branch would dominion over US Military operations based in and revolving around the space domain. The new United States Space Force is a sister-branch to the United States Air Force and is housed within the Department of the Air Force within the Department of Defense.

This colorization covers the background field behind Jefferson and depicts the US Space Force logo as well as countless images of satellites and rockets, systems that are now the domain of the Space Force.
The reverse field of United States Space Force Legal Tender Notes comes with John Trumbulls original design of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This design was created in 1976 for the renewed issue of bill as Federal Reserve Notes.
